We recommend keeping your loved one's ashes safe inside a cremation urn that can be screened, such as a wood, cardboard, or plastic urn for ashes, but it's possible to bring ashes and an open cremation urn separately if the ashes are still in a container that can be screened. You may attempt to bring an open and empty metal urn through security screening, but note that it will still flag for further examination because it will show up as an opaque object when X-rayed.
